interpreting JC's beatitudes

5.20: web.relig/jc/the beatitudes:
Jesus began to preach a message of repentance
because the kingdom of heaven was near (4:12-17).
In order to reach a wider audience,
He moved from Nazareth to the city of Capernaum,
on the shores of the Sea of Galilee,
but more importantly,
on the main highway through the land.
His declaration of beatitudes would come,
but not until He called for repentance.
The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12)
{ Happy are these
, How blessed are those who }:

3
are poor in spirit:
the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
[. not encouraged by this world?
your spirit is the kingdom we are set on developing ]
4
are sad, who mourn:
they will be comforted.
[ developing my kingdom
means comforting your sadness ]
5
are gentle, meek:
will inherit the Land, earth;

[ peaceful demonstration is the key to
building my kingdom;
a violent mob is easily targeted for extinction .
or,
. {Moses, Moshe} (criticized for marrying an Ethiopian woman)
was described as being the most
{gentle, humble} man on earth (Num. 12:3);
and he inherited a leadership role over his nation
to lead them out of slavery .
or,
Psalm 37:11's {gentle, meek}:
7 Take your rest in the Lord,
waiting quietly for him;
do not be angry because of the man who
does well in his evil ways,
and gives effect to his bad designs.
8 Put an end to your wrath and be no longer bitter;
do not give way to angry feeling
which is a cause of sin.
9 For the evil-doers will be cut off:
but those who have faith in the Lord[ADONAI]
will inherit the land .
10 For in a short time
the evil-doer will be [unfindable]
11 But the {gentle, meek}
will inherit the {earth, land};
they will take their delight in peace without measure.]
6
desiring righteousness:
they will be satisfied
[ continuation of Psalm 37's {gentle, meek}:
14 The wicked have unsheathed their swords,
they have strung their bows to
bring down the poor and needy,
to slaughter those whose way is upright.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.
16 Better the little that the righteous has
than the wealth of all the wicked. ]
7
having or showing mercy:
they will be given mercy.
[ continuation of Psalm 37's {gentle, meek}:
it answers the question:
how is it that all the violent are unfindable,
and the gentle can inherit the earth?
those who don't take life
will be allowed to live,
and only the living can breed .]
8
are clean, pure in heart:
they will see God.
[. the problem with schiz'ia is that
when god works by
sharing our minds with each other,
the unclean heart becomes greatly troubled,
and so they hide from god's connectings;
in this way they can't see God;
or,
in Matthew 15, JC explains the mind is the world's,
but if you don't act on worldly thoughts,
the mind becomes clean;
and, that's when the mind can see God:
11 What makes a person unclean
is not what goes into his mouth;
rather, what comes out of his mouth,
that is what makes him unclean!"
18 But what comes out of your mouth
is actually coming from your heart,
and that is what makes a person unclean.
or,
a continuation of {gentle, humble}{Moses, Moshe}
also the only {true, faithful} one(Num. 12:4-8);
who was described as being the only one to see god
directly rather than through a vision:
6 He said, "Listen to what I say:
when there is a prophet among you, I, ADONAI,
make myself known to him in a vision,
I speak with him in a dream.
7 But it isn't that way with my servant {Moses, Moshe}.
He is the only one who is {true, faithful}
in my entire household.
8 With him I speak face to face
and clearly, not in riddles;
he sees the image of ADONAI.
So why weren't you afraid to criticize
my servant {Moses, Moshe}?" ]
9isaiah 9 as harbinger
are the peacemakers:
they'll be named sons of God.
[. the son of a god does God's work
(like father like son);
that work may include peacemaker;
or,
a reminder of Isaiah 9,
where God's wars were so devastating,
the son's of that god would relish peace,
seeking negotiation instead of fortification:
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us;
{ dominion will rest on his shoulders
, the government has been placed in his hands},
and he will be given the name
{ Pele-Yo'etz El Gibbor Avi-'Ad Sar-Shalom
אֵל גִּבּוֹר, אֲבִי-עַד, שַׂר-שָׁלוֹם.הַמִּשְׂרָה, עַל-שִׁכְמוֹ
, Wise Guide, Wonder of a Counselor
, Mighty God, Strong God
, Father of Eternity, Father for ever
, Prince of Peace },
7 in order to extend the dominion
and perpetuate the peace
of the throne and kingdom of David,
to secure it and sustain it
through {justice, wise decision} and righteousness
henceforth and forever. ...
10
those persecuted for pursuing righteousness:
the kingdom of heaven {is, will be} theirs.
[. in the heat of peaceful demonstration,
stay encouraged by keeping your mind on
how you're making the world a better place .]
11,12:
those persecuted and slandered for following JC:
your reward in heaven is great
-- so were the prophets attacked
who were before you:
Be glad and {rejoice, be full of joy} .
[. as they ruin your reputation for
building our new kingdom,
keep in mind all the lives you are helping
and feel rewarded by how thankful they must be .]
