olive oil's high-polyphenol sources

20.3.30: web.health/diet/olive oil/high polyphenol sources:
3.30: summary:
. health claims for olive oil
depend on the level of polyphenols,
which could be extracted from your olive oil,
unless your brand makes specific claims
involving 3rd-party testing,
or is billing itself as a polyphenol extract of olives.
. my favorite product is a fish oil with
polyphenol extracts added to prevent fish odor.

usefulness and availability of various forms of #ginger #health #diet

2019.12.28: health/diet/ginger/
usefulness and availability of various forms of ginger:
2020: summary:
. Dr.Sears and others who promote
ginger as an anti-inflammatory,
suggest you should use only the fresh root
whereas the cheapest is dried root.
. people who are buying fresh ginger online
warn it can easily get moldy in storage;
so, it may be safer to buy only in store.
. I would like to find frozen cubed ginger;
but I found research that shows
powdered ginger does offer some benefits;
and, certain high-heat ginger extracts
may have more benefits than fresh.

arrythmia better or worse from low iron?

19.11.25: med/heart/afib/
arrythmia better or worse from low iron?
. an elder who visited the doctor for afib
(atrial fibrillation or arrythmia)
was told that one aggravating factor was that
her ovo-vegetarianism had resulted in low iron
and that she needed to take iron supplements.
. I was surprised to hear this,
because it was previously believed that
higher iron levels involved oxidative stress
and men were being encouraged to give blood
in order to keep their iron low.
[Amer J Epi 1998]
. however, ...

how moderate red wine use affects hormones

19.11.11: web.health/hormonics/diet
/red wine and alcohol:
. red grapes fermented or not
may raise levels of free testosterone (T)
by reducing conversion of T into estrogen;
and can also lower the binding of T with SHBG.
. alcohol may reduce inflammation for heart,
[Dr.Sears, the inflammation zone]
and it may reduce what is binding T,
but may also convert more T to estrogen,
and might reduce progesterone levels.
. red wine compared to white wine,
gives more free T and lower SHBG levels.

how #vegan diets are more prone to bleeding

9.6: health/diet/how vegans are more prone to bleeding:
9.10: summary:
. vegans seem more prone to bleeding;
Sears's zone diet research suggests
that there is greater risk of bleeding
when taking high-dose fish oil,
because the omega-3 oil EPA
greatly exceeds the balancing effects of
arachidonic acid (AA) omega-6 oil.
. it is quite likely that the converse is true,
those with very low levels of AA,
are going to have a bloody EPA/AA ratio
even if their EPA is not high.
. one of the richest sources of AA is egg yolk,
and AA may be why a 2018 study showed
Chinese eating one yolk daily can
reduce their risk of bleeding death.
. a great vegan source for both protein
and the omega-6 that may be converted to AA,
is chickpeas (1.1g omega-6 per 100g);
of course, nuts and seeds
are the richest source of omega-6
other than processed oils.
. chia seeds and walnuts are balanced:
chia: 5.8g omega-6, 17.5g omega-3.
walnuts: 38g omega-6, 9g omega-3;
walnuts are rich in polyphenols too.

early #AMD reversal with high-dose fish oil #med #blindness

2.12: med/amd/fisho
2.13: summary:
. AMD is a major source of blindness;
studies show that in its early stages,
it can be reversed with fish oil;
and that a key marker of healing
is there being nearly as much EPA
as the body has of AA;
fish oil supplements vary in EPA;
eg, le caps have 0.35g of EPA;
along with EPA from fish oil,
you also need to lower AA levels:
keep insulin low (avoid grains and sugars);
limit omega-6 oils and most of all
be wary of AA in fatty animal products,
especially eggs and chicken.
if you get all your fish oil from fish meat
you also get some AA along with
dioxins, PCB's and mercury].
. AMD reversal was indicated by
the ability to read more letters
on a chart with increasingly smaller letters:
8 more letters at aa/epa ratio of 2-2.7;
[from perhaps 4 le caps per day]
15 letters at aa/epa ratio of 1.1-1.6
[from perhaps 8-12 le caps].
. the study applied the oil in 2 doses.
. rancid fish oil can do more harm than good
so it's important to pick a brand
that is 3rd-party tested for low rancidity
and also has powerful antioxidants
such as rosemary or olive extract.
. when taking high-dose fish oil
you should add more antioxidants,
and also ensure you get some GLA
that is blocked by high-dose DHA
(oats are a source of GLA).

omega-3 medicinal effects

10.21: web.health/diet/omega-3/medicinal effects:
12.27: summary:
. fish oil has long-chained omega-3
that is very valuable for reducing disease;
you can make some yourself with
plant-based omega-3, but not much.
. plant-based omega-3 was not helpful for
reducing the risk of circulation disorders
yet one study showed it reduced the risk of
macular degeneration.
. some studies showed that supplements did not help
reduce risk of cerebrovascular disease,
only a diet of whole fish helped.
. one study showed high-dose supplements
did help with macular degeneration,
while another study showed that
low dose supplements did not help.
. fish is a source of mercury, PCB's and dioxins;
fish oil supplements that are 3rd-party tested
may help with heart disease, cancer,
arthritis, macular degeneration
and mental illness.

how is higher linoleic omega-6 oil healthier?

4.13: news.health/diet/hormonics/
how is higher linoleic omega-6 oil healthier?:
4.19: summary:
. if anything "predicts type 2 diabetes"
it is sure to tell you that the studied population
was eating too much grain and sugar.
. this study basically says that
foods with more omega-6 oil were actually helpful
in a group tending to abuse carb's.
. while omega-6 (linoleic acid) may have problems,
a major source of it is nuts and seeds:
a great source of fiber and B vitamins.
. but as for linoleic acid reducing risk of mortality,
can you really get health benefits from
guzzling corn or soy oil?
. also they found palmitoleic acid was bad
whereas that is sold as a health food;
likely they were measuring levels of meat
rather than healthy sources like macadamia nuts.
. this was a study of types of oils found in blood;
that might not be directly related to oils in diet,
due to conversions.

lef.org's diet survey

10.3: co.lef.org/health/hormonics/
my diet and why
:

funny choice of diets to follow:
Low carb/Atkins    28.57%
Vegetarian/vegan    15.87%
I eat whatever I want    14.29%
Calorie restriction    12.7%
Low fat/Pritikin    3.17%

Other 25.%

 -- where is mediterranean?
did you mean to emphasize Other,
to make a point?
let me expound on that point !
. a pritikin diet is a special version of vegetarian diet:
the low-glycemic, low-fat version
-- in fact vegetarian is often quite glycemic
and saves the animals only to kill the human!
. the atkins is confusingly 2 diets,
# the induction part:
high-fat with less than 20g carb;
# and the maintenance phase:
. the only difference between that and Zone
is not a fat limit -- there is none for
athletes who want a high-calorie diet --
the Zone's big diff is a careful limit on protein
-- generous but quite narrow limits,
just like the carbs .
. the Zone diet also differs from atkins by
making demands on the quality of the fat:
it should be monounsaturates and not sat'fats
with only the essential amount of polyunsaturates
except for fish oils . again quality matters:
only pharmaceutically distilled fish oil .
. I do the Americium Dream Lustig Zone diet
-- hormonics for short (as in hormones in harmony)
which is like Zone (mediterranian style)
but is more about higher fiber, and
lower glycemics instead of lower carbs .
. all my protein comes from
beans pureed with LE whey protein isolate
and gelatine powder
-- no zone concerns for either
glucagon impact or carb limits .
. I get some egg yolks for brain food
and for fear that vegetarianism is unbalanced .
. I consider my diet animal friendly too
but only in the future when our
combination of hyperbreeders and capitalists
gives up on lowering farm costs .
...
I'm a little late for this thread,
but after it was posted,
some long-term primate studies
cast doubt on low calorie dieting
being useful for longevity,
but of course it's good for health .

2011.12.11:  web.health/hormonics/neo-paleolithic diet:

seem to have forgotten some valid Zone lessons .]
