8.18: co.mobi/internet access/The real cost of working and living in paradise:
. Verizon just released a new wireless Internet connectivity gadget
called the MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot
http://tinyurl.com/o64t9w
The MiFi is a wireless, battery-operated portable WiFi hot spot.
It also acts as a router, and enables access for up to five WiFi devices.
It uses a micro-USB jack for AC or DC power,
making it perfect for road warriors of every type.
Internet access is granted via Verizon's extensive high speed EV-DO network,
which has decent coverage around the country.
The MiFi costs $100 with a 2-year contract (or $270 without a contract),
plus $60 a month for up to 5/GB of data every 30 days.
We didn't get the MiFi to replace our satellite access,
since 5/GB a month won't cut it for us.
Hughes Net mobile satellite Internet system.
monthly fee of $130, for a meager 10/GB a month, or just 375/MB each day.
. it can get us online from the most remote places on the continent .
co.mobi/list of unfriendly towns:

To get mail, a driver's license and plates, you need an address.
Full-time RVers usually choose South Dakota, Texas or Florida
as a home state. Other states require residents
to be in the borders more frequently.
The couple calls South Dakota home, on paper.
It is where they are registered to vote, by absentee,
where they are called for jury duty and their mailing address.
A South Dakota mail service sends batches of mail .

solar.dryer

8.14: gear/solar.dryer:
. a solar dryer would be like the usual,
but rotation is done by wind generated power
that is saved by filling a compressor .
. hot air comes from that idea for heating air in a house:
baffles route air through a greenhouse .

glasses

4.18: pos.gear/glasses/compounding scripts with readers:
. instead of diff scripts for mac
use both current and very weak 2nd pair
so can try new one without removing the other
sfm has these now (go today!)
[10.1.4: obs:
. later I did get some at sfm,
but I took the readers off of the scripts,
so that I could avoid wearing so many glasses at the same time .
. at sfm I could then try the readers
that would be specific to the distance needed for the mac .
]
4.28: proj.gear/glasses/nylon binding:
. need to find an optimal location
and then make sure the binding is
tight for that diameter of arm .
(it narrows as it approaches the ar) .
. I tried just doing a 2nd winding over my first try,
but tried a method that didn't work like the first:
doing a series of square knots;
the first -- and final --
was to hold the parts together
while doing many windings,
each time pulling all them tight,
winding for 5mm along the parts,
then back again,
and locking this in place
with a few square knots held in place with
a melting burn(it's nylon thread) .
. the glasses are as far from my face as possible
while still being able to
wear my hat with the built-in safety shields .

PixelOptics, based in Roanoke, Va., is pursuing an electro-optical approach,
which will use a technology that is similar to an LCD display
to change the refractive index of a transparent component
that the company will embed in conventional lenses.
In principle, that will make the technology accessible to many frames and fashions.
The goal is a system that will automatically determine focus
by using an accelerometer, a sensor that measures changes in motion,
said Ronald Bloom, the company founder.
It would need recharging every two or three days.
The company has not given out details or pricing of its technology,
but has said that it is in user trials.

legumes

8.22: news.cook/mung beans:
The effects of some domestic traditional processes,
such as dehulling, soaking, germination, boiling, autoclaving and microwave cooking,
on the nutritional composition and antinutritional factors of mung bean seeds
were studied.
Germination and cooking processes caused significant
decreases in fat, carbohydrate fractions, antinutritional factors
and total ash contents.
All processes decreased the concentrations of lysine, tryptophan, threonine
and sulfur-containing amino acids.
However, all treatments were higher in total aromatic amino acids,
leucine, isoleucine and valine contents than the FAO/WHO reference.
Dehulling, soaking and germination processes
were less effective than cooking processes
in reducing trypsin inhibitor, tannins and hemagglutinin activity contents.
Also, germination was more effective
in reducing phytic acid, stachyose and raffinose.
Germination resulted in a greater retention of all minerals
compared to other processes.
In vitro protein digestibility and protein efficiency ratio
were improved by all processes.
There varied considerably the chemical score and limiting amino acids
of mung bean subjected to the various processes
depending on the type of process.

welcome to heck, bent trikers!

4.16: how some family reacted

. the new trike has no basket,
. some wonder how I can see the traffic from down there?
. it's the same posture as in a car,
just a foot lower
and it's the only way to not be
knocked over by the leaping {winds, thieves, dogs},

the converted:
. they brought up a good point..
you are looking up and around instead of down
and low-riders are easier to balance .
but teasing me about fear of dogs?
. I do cry a lot about dogs;
I should just practice martial arts
and let the confidence in!

8.15: co.net/trice/where are all the trikers?
date Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 1:26 PM
Out of 5 million or so you'd think there would be more.
Actually saw a recumbent trike, not a Trice,
parked outside a supermarket in Skibbereen the other week,
but by the time I'd found a piece of paper for a quick note it had gone.
Come on Tricers, where are you all?
my reply:
. my family said the trike/velomobile was impractical as a car .
. my insur'rep suggested that if I
ever tried to claim that exotic trike as stolen
it might be categorized as jewelry
(they don't cover jewelry) .
