consolidated elections nov 3 2015 #Tucson city, #Pima county, AZ #vote

10.17: proj.gov/vote/consolidated elections nov 3 2015 Tucson city, Pima county, AZ:
prop 201: no
. should we stop replacing police with red light or speed cameras?
we should make sure cameras are used fairly, not abolished
because police have better things to do.
. anyone who is angry about automated law enforcement
thinks the laws are unnecessary,
and needs to get the laws changed,
or is thinking police are overlooking them
(enforcing the law only for certain types or races),
or is worried that the automated tickets are unfair;
eg, one problem is when entering an intersection
and then getting stopped by a pedestrian
so that you are still in the intersection when the light is red,
and bad judges aren't forgiving your case;
so, the solution is to get good judges,
not abolish automated law enforcement.

PĒCE Do Happy Today outreach

9.22: co.pol/Partnership for Equity and Civic Engagement
/Do Happy Today outreach:
. PĒCE (Partnership for Equity and Civic Engagement)
had a planning meeting for their Do Happy Today outreach .
 . part of happiness is getting a sense of community;
(eg free food may bring the community together)
. do you measure success in gross domestic product,
or do you measure it in national happiness levels ?
. and consider long-term happiness too:
you're high on sugar but what did alzheimer's cost?
you feel lucky but are you prepared for
climate change and limits to population growth?
. as a closing message,
I seconded the gentleman who earlier showed concern about
preparing for climate change:
even 3 days without infrastructure
would be as devastating as nuclear bomb .
(he adds that people are happy when they are grateful,
rather than being grateful when they are happy).
. we should use some of this time promoting happiness
to talk about long term happiness
remind people how fragile our supply chain is,
and that we need to relocalize,
telling people about backyard gardens and chicken raising .
[ but perhaps not a good message for a desert like Tucson
as it has more people than local water supplies .]

desert diabetics at risk of fungal infection #HFCS #hormonics

4.2: web.health/diabetics at risk
of deadly, desert fungal infection:
summary:
. the Mayo clinic (in az's Phoenix suburbs)
has released a report of an invasive fungus,
Basidiobolus ranarum,
that is partial to deserts (Arizona and Saudi Arabia);
and, it grows tumor-like masses around the intestines;
but it's very rare, because it prefers diabetics,
other metabolic disorders, or the immune compromised .
. a systemic fungal infection that is partial to deserts?
that reminds of valley fever .
. I got very sore knees from valley fever in Tucson
after tilling the ground during the fungal infection's
favorite growth period: after a long-needed rain .
. Basidiobolus ranarum starts from ingesting the feces
of some animal whose intenstines usually contain it .
. the CDC had no clues as to how the very few victims
could have possibly ingested feces,
but they may not be aware of the desert's
ferocious dust storms:
they can dig deep for fresh feces,
and fling it into a breathing mouth or nose .

"the risk for transmission of zoonotic agents
by close contact between pets and their owners
through bed sharing, kissing or licking
is real and has even been documented
for life-threatening infections such as
plague, and internal parasites"
and other serious diseases.
. several people have died from infections
after pets licked their open wounds .
. pets are exposed to salmonella in their food,
and if they've become littered with their own feces
the salmonella can stay alive for up to 12 weeks.

. 53% of dog owners consider their dog to be

say they sleep with their dog next to them .
. dogs can carry some meningitis vectors,
and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
. dog worms can be a source of human toxocariasis,
causing serious vision problems for young children.

. disease transmissions from cats
are far more prevalent, and often more serious .
. a case of the plague in arizona occurred
when a child slept with his flea-infested cat.

. Cat Scratch is a bacterial infection
causing serious damage to the
liver, kidney and spleen of humans
from the scratch, lick or bite of a cat.
. the germ is also contained in the flea feces
that are dropped by a cat onto food prep areas .
