boric acid #cook

9.28: aq.cook/boric acid:
. boric acid has some medical uses;
and, when you get a good price,
it will be for technical grade;
whereas we should have NF or USP grade
for use in eyes, ears, and internally.

. boric acid is a chemically noisy way
to get boron in the diet;
but, while your best source is from plants,
you need 435g almonds to get 10mg boron,
even though that is the best source
(despite the high level of AGEs)
unless you feel safer eating
more than 370g of raisins or prunes.
[Hunt et al. (1991)]
(that's a lot of carbs, fructose,
and even more AGEs).

. I've used 10mg of boric acid daily
in my morning smoothie since 2017.9.28.
. 3mg is the suggested dose,
but 10mg is tested for anabolic effects
(J Trace Elem Med Biol. 2011).

. I recently ran out of boric acid;
the last time I found some in a pharmacy,
but when Walmart didn't have any NF grade,
I checked on amazon.

$10 Sunmark Boric Acid Powder NF, 6 oz
--a purchaser uses this for eye wash.

$16 for 2# USP grade (cheap)
says uses include "eye wash";
yet also warns "do not use in the eyes"
--I would take their word for it.

$12.81 for 8 lb technical grade;
(for killing roaches and freshening laundry).
