Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD):
. if colors seem washed out and dull,
you may be experiencing early warning signs of AMD .
macular edema:
Symptoms of macular edema may include
blurred or wavy central vision and/or
colors appear "washed out" or changed.
. if you have macular edema symptoms,
you should see an ophthalmologist right away.
If left untreated, macular edema can cause severe vision loss
and even blindness.
risk factors for Macular oedema:
reported by people with diabetes, type 2 diabetes,
multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure, glaucoma.
Diabetic Macular Edema (DME):
With DME, the retina becomes swollen,
which causes vision to become blurry and washed out.
In people with diabetes, this can happen when
high blood sugar levels
damage blood vessels in the retina .
Optic Neuritis (ON):
. ON can greatly affect colour vision, with colours seeming
washed out during or after an episode.
Cataracts:
Vision is blurred or dim
Colors seem dim or washed out
factors that increase risk of glaucoma:
Certain ethnicities: Glaucoma is six to eight times
more common in African-Americans than in Caucasians.
Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans and Japanese-Americans
are also at an increased risk.
Chronic diseases:
Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease
and hypothyroidism all increase your risk.
Eye injury and nearsightedness:
Eye injuries such as retinal detachment, eye tumors,
eye inflammations and eye surgery, as well as nearsightedness,
increase your risk.
Use of corticosteroids:
A prolonged use of these drugs appears to increase your risk,
especially corticosteroid eye drops.
